Principal's Welcome
Welcome to Fox Road Elementary School's web site!
"Where the World Comes Together"
Mission Statement
The mission of Fox Road Elementary School is to provide a safe, positive, welcoming environment designed to educate the whole child. All members of the school community are valued and respected. Fox Road students will be provided the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to address the myriad challenges of the future.
Vision Statement:
Working collaboratively, we will achieve the mission of Fox Road Elementary School by:
- Setting high expectations for all students regardless of academic, cultural, or
economic status;
- Implementing a variety of teaching methods to accommodate all learning styles;
- Affirming and communicating student progress.
Fox Road Elementary School is located in North Raleigh just inside I-540 between Capital Boulevard (Rt. 1) and Louisburg Road (Rt. 401). Our student population is culturally diverse, with representation from about 35 different nations and students who speak around 25 different languages; consequently our motto, “Where the World Comes Together.” At Fox Road we have daily opportunities to inform and realize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream that people will be judged by “the content of their character, not the color of their skin”. Here, we have an exceptionally sound heart for developing and fostering character traits that lead to actions wherein students will do the right things, even when no one is looking. We reward strong character. We expect strong character. All students are embraced by all faculty and staff members—and we model what we expect.
We have a very strong focus on teaching and learning. This year, our teachers are all participating in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The focus of these PLCs is students’ learning with regard to these four key questions—What do we want students to learn? (essential skills); How will we know when they’ve learned it? (skill mastery); What do we do for students who haven’t mastered objectives?; and What do we do for students who have mastered objectives?
Collaboration is the key to our success in this endeavor, and teams of teachers are working diligently to focus on and answer these critical questions. Our end goal for 2007-08 is that students will demonstrate mastery of key objectives in reading, math, and writing (answering the four key questions noted above). While we realize that this is a lofty goal, it is one that we are committed to pursuing.
Although we certainly are not forgetting science and social studies, our focus on essential skills for mastery is in the aforementioned three core academic areas. Next school year, we will build on what we’ve begun this year by establishing essential skills for mastery in science and social studies.
