Safety Patrol Program

Members of the safety patrol program are 5th grade students who have been recommended by their homeroom teacher, based on the character traits that we promote around the school. This process has been the single best predictor of students who become successful patrols.

Every patrol is expected to know and help enforce "fairly" all walking and hallway rules. Being on their assigned post wearing a safety vest and setting a good example they encourage other students to follow all safety rules. Their duty in the morning begins as soon as they arrive in the classroom and normally ends 5 minutes before the official bell rings to start the school day. They are expected to be at their assigned post in the afternoon by 3:35 pm before the mass of carpool and bus riders crowd the hallways.

A certificate of appreciation is awarded to every patrol who successfully served in the program. Last year, we had a skating party which was sponsored by the Raleigh Police Department for all safety patrol members countywide. It was a fun and sad event at the same time, since I had enjoyed working with these young dedicated individuals, but I think this year's team is really looking great as well.
