Thank you for a wonderful start to our school year!

I have discovered that I actually enjoy starting my mornings on Fox Road waving at people, and I hope, making morning carpool a little bit smoother for parents. Last week, I got a letter from the City of Raleigh denying my request for a traffic light at our carpool lane. Two reasons: apparently we have not had enough crashes at this intersection, and our traffic volume is not high enough. I intend to try again, perhaps not expecting a traffic light but getting some other form of support on the roadway. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, I’ll continue being at morning carpool as often as I can. There are times when I have meetings, so cannot be there. On those days, know that I’m thinking of you And, that I’ll be back as soon as possible.        Melanie  Rhoads, principal

PTA Re-Organizational Meeting

On Tuesday, October 14th at 6:00 in room 115 (music room) we will hold a re-organizational meeting for the PTA. If you've thought that you’d like to contribute, but do not have time to hold an office, this is the meeting for you. It should last only about 45 minutes.

The PTA’s focus this year is threefold: To raise enough money to support our cultural arts programs for students (about $3000); to raise whatever we can to offset the prices of student field trips; and to increase volunteerism at Fox Road.

To these ends, we do not intend to do a full scale fund raiser this year— no selling to all of your neighbors, friends, and family! Instead, we’ll ask for donations of whatever you, your friends and family can afford— a dollar, ten dollars, whatever. The money we collect will be used to pay for cultural arts and field trips. If you’d like to send in a donation, please make checks/money orders out to the Fox Road PTA. We will send a receipt home with your child. By the way, cash (dollars and/or coins) are also fine with us☺ If you don’t care about getting a receipt, feel free to drop loose change into the box in the reception area, marked Student Cultural Arts and Field Trips.

At the PTA meeting on the 14th, you will also have a chance to register for the WCPSS Volunteer process on the computer. Completing this is necessary if you intend to volunteer in the school in any capacity. Many of the folks who signed up to volunteer during our Open House have not yet registered with the WCPSS. We will speak to the various volunteering opportunities available at the school on this evening.

I hope that we will see many of you there. If you need to bring your child, please ensure that s/he has homework to do or a book to read since we will not have anyone specifically for watching the children.

No Fuss Fund Raisers— From Harris Teeter, Food Lion and Target

Please register your Harris Teeter VIC card so that 2% of the Harris Teeter brands that you purchase will be donated to Fox Road— used for the PTA purposes outlines above. In order for this to happen, you can go to www.harristeeter.com, click on “Together in Education” in the quick links at the bottom of the page and register your card with Fox Road’s school number— 6188. Or, you can go to the customer service counter in Harris Teeter and ask them to do it for you.

Shopping at Food Lion is the easiest and most convenient way to raise money for our school. After registering your MVP card, each time you use it a portion of your total grocery purchase will be donated to Fox Road. In order to sign up for this program, either call 704-633-8250, ext. 3810 or visit Food Lion’s we site at www.foodlion.com/inthecommunity/shopandshare/ and click on Register MVP card, then follow the prompts.  (continued on back)
