Today was Mrs. Bolick’s last day after about 30 years of teaching children. While we are all very happy for her, and she has certainly earned the right to this next phase of her life, we will miss her terribly. She’s the kind of teacher that every child should get to have. If you’d like to send her a note, feel free to send it to the school and we’ll get it to her. She’s promised that she’ll be back to volunteer! |

Hello! It’s hard to believe that this is the last day of October already. This month has flown by— in large part because it’s been such a busy month. You may have noticed that I haven’t been helping with morning carpool very often lately. Between morning meetings and off-campus meetings, I simply have not been able to get out there. I’m sorry about that, and I will try to go out to help whenever I can. The month of November will be rather choppy— students have a lot of days off. Please remember that both Monday and Tuesday of next week (November 3rd and 4th) are teacher workdays. And, the following Tuesday is Veteran’s Day— another day off. Then, at the end of the month school’s out for Thanksgiving from Wednesday through Friday. So, this will likely be another fast month! Melanie Rhoads, principal |

PTA Re-Organizational Meeting Twelve Fox Road parents attended our first PTA re-organizational meeting on October 14th. At this meeting, we decided that instead of having an Executive Board, we will have a PTA Steering Committee. I think that this term is more reflective of what we are trying to accomplish with the PTA this year— less focus on time-consuming fund raisers, and more focus on volunteerism and getting folks into the school for education and fun. This past Tuesday, we had a second meeting with seven of these parents. At this meeting, we decided on a few events and small scale fundraisers for the year. Here are some of the highlights: · We need to have a PTA membership drive in order to retain our status with the State PTA. We hope to begin this at the International Festival on Thursday, November 20th. Membership will be $3.00 a person. · We will continue with the Box Tops for Education program. So, if you’ve been saving, please continue to do so. We’ll get more information out to families soon. Then, someone from the Steering Committee will call upon those of you who have signed up to volunteer to get help with counting and organizing the Box Top labels for submission in March. · We will again have a McTeacher Night, hopefully in January. This will be the Fox Road staff’s third year of doing this. It’s a lot of fun, and last year the PTA got about $900! · In February, we’ll have a Fox Road family movie night in the gym. The date and movie have not yet been determined, but we’ll have more information for you prior to Winter Break. · In April, we will have a Fox Road family Bingo/Board Game night. Again, more information will come home once its plans are firmed up. In addition to these events, there are other school-sponsored events such as the International Festival in November, the 4th and 5th grade Chorus performances on December 16, Family Math night in February, and our annual Kickball game (with burial of our 20 year time capsule) in May. All told, I think we’ve got some wonderful ideas and great family events planned for this year. Please be sure to watch for future information in your child’s Friday Folder. And, I’d like to thank the following parents for their contributions to the PTA so far this year: Janny Flynt, Tia Conrad, Courtney Allen, Jen Stengel, Tequila Mason, Tonya and Brodrick Perry, Mary Anne Etheridge, Danielle Williams, Paulette Badiabo, Tonya McClamb, Chrissy Dykeman, Cyndi Faison, and Cory Belonga. If you’d like to learn more about the PTA happenings, and/or become more involved, please be sure to talk with one of these neighbors. Or, send a note to the school and we’ll pass it along. Please don’t forget to register for the No Fuss Fund Raisers from Harris Teeter, Food Lion and Target. Information on how to do this was in last month’s newsletter and is available at the school website, foxroades.wcpss.net In addition, the Steering Committee will send home a flyer soon. |
