Ms. Wood Many of the students are already aware of this… Ms. Wood has not been at school this past month. She is home recovering from a broken leg. Her recovery is going well, and we hope to have her smiling self back here at the end of February or beginning of March. She’s bored silly and ready to return! |

What’s Happening with the PTA? As you know, this year we have been reorganizing the PTA with a focus on volunteerism and raising enough money to pay for our students’ cultural arts programs. Here’s where we are: · Instead of having a PTA Board we have shifted to a Steering Committee. There is no president, vice president, treasurer at this time although in order to maintain our PTA status with the State we will likely still need to have these offices filled. · We will again have McTeacher Night at our local McDonald’s. This will be our third, and during that evening the PTA has raised about $500 in the past. This year’s McTeacher Night will be Thursday, February 19 from 5-8:00 PM. Please plan to bring your children to McDonald’s for dinner that evening— their teachers, teacher assistants and I will be there to prepare food for and serve you! And, it’s a great way to support the Fox Road PTA. · On Tuesday, March 10, we will have our Family Science/Math Night from 6:30-7:30. This evening of hands-on activities is intended to help parents better understand the kinds of math and science skills that we now expect of our young students. · In April, date yet to be confirmed, we will hold another family night. It will be either: board games and bingo, family movie in the gym, or a family dance in the gym. Prior to beginning all of the evening’s fun, the PTA will sponsor a spaghetti dinner. · In May, we will hold our third annual staff/student kickball game. You will receive more information about all of these events closer to the time. If you would like to be a member of the PTA Steering Committee, please come to our next meeting on Tuesday, February 10 from 6-7:00. The more the merrier! If you have signed up to volunteer at Fox Road and have not yet gotten a call from anyone, please email me at mrhoads@wcpss.net . We truly do need out volunteers and do not want anyone to feel left out! I tell anyone I can that Fox Road Elementary School is great place to be— it’s the real world. It’s the place where we could finally realize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s ideal of judging one another on the content of our character, not the color of our skin. There are a multitude of reasons that I am proud to be your children’s principal— I truly enjoy each and every one of them. And, I hope that we at Fox Road make a positive difference in their lives. The kids aren’t the only source of my pride, though. I feel privileged to work with all of you. You are caring and giving people, as is always evident when it’s time to help others— the canned food drive, the Pendergrass family, Heifer International, coin drives to help various organizations, and the American Heart Association. You’ve received information on this year’s Jump Rope for Heart, taking place the week of February 9-13. I know that giving may not be as easy this year, but please remember that small amounts from a lot of people add up to large amounts quickly. Heart disease has likely impacted all of us in one way or another. The American Heart Association is working hard to combat it. Thanks for whatever you can give. |
